Broadband Speed and shiz.

Postby Jasamondo » 31 May 2006, 01:55

So, just went to the BT site to see if I could actually get some of my nifty upgrade, from 2mb/s to up to 8mb/s.

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 2Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 5.5Mbps up to 8Mbps.

The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.

So, can I, or can't I? :)

Muchas gracias :P

PS: Was my first post using Internet Explorer in a long long time.

Nope, your on a 2mbps only exchange, sorry dude.

However if NTL etc are in your area, may be worth speaking to them, as they may (theough the magic of LLU) updated parts of the exchange your on - and you could be moved. Unlikely i add, but possible

*mumbles about his 1mb line*

8MB adsl is what it appears to be (for most, however some are marketting Max as ADSL2 and 2+ (24mbps)

Cool, so, would the 8mb/s that I could, in theory get, if I lived somewhere decent, would that be MAX?

All quoted speeds are theoretical - they depend on contention and other traffic. Plus at the end of the day the source server for the material (8mbps doesnt help pulling off your mate's msn with his 200kbps upload ;))

BT lines have a lot to be desired in my experience :( when I upgraded to broadband a while back was getting horrible connection speeds and it used to stop completely when it rained O.o.
An annoying few weeks later when BT finally sent out an engineer he discovered the box on the telegraph poll was filling up with water when it rained and the original phone cable put into my house by BT was 2 cord bell wires! O.o all sorted now though :)
